So badly, I couldn’t work out or even exercise for more than 2 months, both times. And I couldn’t play my favorite sports or really be active at all for that whole time. And I found out later that my clients were sustaining similar injuries too.

But I didn’t understand why… I was told when I was first trained as a fitness professional that the traditional warm up stretches and movements, plus a little common sense were all you needed to avoid injury... and my clients and I had done all of that… but we still ended up here - with serious injuries!

So I spent the next year and a half looking for a solution.

After lots of research, consultation with the best trainers and therapists, trial and error, and testing and experimenting, I finally made a few discoveries and developed them into...

I called my new method and system “priming” because there’s a lot more to it than just warming up in the traditional sense.

“Priming” is a cutting-edge and scientifically-proven system of easy stretches and natural movements, that dynamically prepares and activates your muscles, joints, nervous system, and even your psychology and mind, for any type of workout you are about to do.

Since I started using this system, which has been over 8 years now, I haven’t suffered even one injury, and I haven’t let up AT ALL on the intensity of my workouts! (In fact, as you’ll see below, using “priming” has actually allowed me to INCREASE the intensity and growth in my workouts!)

My body said, “LET’S DO MORE!”


Not long after I started using priming and showed it to my clients, I started noticing some interesting results...

When I “primed” before a workout, it felt like my body was sort of telling me it wanted to do more, and attempt more, and it was sort of telling me that it could handle more than the amount of weight and the number of reps I did in my normal workouts… Or maybe it was just that my normal workouts seemed a little easier - I don’t know, but it was very cool!

So I started testing this and seeing how far I could go. I found that when I did attempt a little more in the gym or even on a run, the extra power, strength, intensity, endurance and stamina I needed (and wanted!) were all there in what seemed like deep reserves!

This is something I hadn’t ever experienced before I started “priming” my workouts!

And the other exciting part about priming was that it usually only took about an extra 5 - 7 minutes to do the “priming” before each of my workouts!

So, what exactly is "priming"?


The best way to help you understand priming is to show you some of the mistakes I discovered I was making in the past, and that most people make when they warm up… and then show you how we do it differently with priming.

(DO YOU MAKE ANY OF THESE WARM-UP MISTAKES?)

MISTAKE #1: Ignoring “Hidden” Supporting & Stabilizing Muscles

Most people don’t realize that for every workout they do, they’re actually using multiple muscles and joints, and so they only warm up the obvious “primary” muscles. With “priming”, in addition to warming up the primary muscles you’ll use in your workout, we also make sure to prepare, loosen and lubricate all the muscles and joints that SURROUND, SUPPORT AND STABILIZE the main muscles you’ll be working out. This spreads the load and intensity of your workout across more muscles and joints, thereby protecting you better because no one muscle or joint needs to bear the entire load, and it gives you more power during your workout because more muscles and joints are now involved!

MISTAKE #2: Using A Limited Range Of Motion In Your Warm Ups

Here’s the problem: Most people only move their muscles in a very limited range of motion during their warm up, and then move them in a much wider range of motion or even the full range of motion while working out! You can probably see how this can lead to injury and significantly limit the power and intensity you could have during your workout. With priming, we warm up our muscles and joints in their full range of motion before we work out, so they’re fully prepared, loosened and lubricated in every possible movement they will do, before we add a lot more weight and intensity.

MISTAKE #3: Warming Up The Same Way For Different Workouts

Most people do the same handful of stretches they learned in high school Phys. Ed. class and then a few minutes of light jogging on the treadmill to warm up for every workout! With “priming”, we isolate specific muscles and joints that you are about to use in your upcoming workout, so you can get those specific muscles and joints ready, prepared and protected for your workout. Doing a little light jogging isn’t going to cut it if you want to get fully prepared for an intense chest and back weightlifting session!

MISTAKE #4: Ignoring Weaker Body Areas

We all have a tendency to work on, and warm up the areas of our bodies where we’re strongest and most confident, but this is a big mistake because during our workouts and exercise sessions, we will be using our weaker body parts too… and if we didn’t warm those parts up properly, or at all, they become vulnerable to serious injury. With priming, we have to be honest with ourselves about our weaker parts and make sure to loosen and warm them up too, so we don’t get injured and can achieve better results in every workout!

MISTAKE #5: Doing Static Stretching Only

Most people do what’s called “static stretching” in their pre-workout warm ups. Priming utilizes some static stretching but also adds dynamic stretching because recent research shows that if you do even 30 seconds of dynamic stretching, you can significantly enhance your muscular performance during your workout.

To properly protect you from injury and to maximize the power and results you get with every workout, every Primer Workout contains each of the following attributes:

P PREPARATION
Prepares your body fully for the specific workout you’re planning to do.
R RANGE OF MOTION
You must move the muscles and joints through their full range of motion. With most of our lifestyles, the lack of moving our bodies through full range of motion leads to muscle imbalances and atrophy, which leads to injuries and pain.
I ISOLATION
You need to loosen and lubricate not only the specific muscles and joints you plan to use in your workout, but also those that surround, support and stabilize them.
M MOVEMENT
It is all about movement, and getting your core temp and heart rate up. When your body temperature is higher and your blood is already circulating, your body can respond better and more safely to greater demands that will be present during your workout.
E ENDURANCE
We want to focus on the most important muscles in the body that protect against injury, and those are the stabilizers. These muscles are activated with low load and higher repetitions.
R RESISTANCE
You need to add some resistance to your warm up. This can be done with bodyweight, resistive tubing, medicine ball, kettlebell, barbell, etc. Along with isolating the joint and moving it so the joint lubricates itself through full range of motion, you also need to add load so the muscles around that joint activate, get ready to do their job and build endurance.

“This sounds great and all, but…
it seems like this is going to add A LOT

Actually, it doesn’t.

I wanted to show you the science, the mistakes people make, and all the ways priming is different than traditional warm ups, so you can see why priming is such a superior way to protect yourself against injury, and see how it can produce significantly greater results in each and every workout…

But, once you learn priming and the different primer workouts, you’d realize that they only add around 5 to 7 minutes to the beginning of each workout...

And any 5th grader could learn these primer workouts, because they’re dead simple.

The secret is not in doing some new, weird or intricate movements - the reason “priming” works so well is we ONLY do certain movements and stretches, and DON’T DO OTHERS… and we do them in a very specific ORDER (which is critical), and we do them in a very SPECIFIC WAY…
